This seminar will begin examining the effects that the Mexican and Cuban revolutions had on insurgent groups in Latin America.  It will focus on the Zapatistas in Mexico, the Montoneros in Argentina, and the Shinning Path in Peru. The seminar will focus on the challenges and demands these groups made to the state and will conclude by analyzing the effects they had had on the development of contemporary Latin American democracies.
