In the second volume of In Search of Lost Time, Proust’s incomparable masterpiece, we meet the characters who will shape the narrator’s life. Artists illuminate the path to becoming a writer. Friends further his investigation of the class dynamics of French society. From his relationship with Albertine, he will come to understand love, its attendant suffering, and the boundless mystery that lies within each of us. Please read to page 71 for the first session.
Mike Levine’s most recent Newberry seminar was on Vladimir Nabokov’s The Gift. He holds a PhD in English from Rice University.
