6 – 7:30 pm
We will explore social theory by considering the work of a number of classic sociologists, including Karl Marx, Emile Durkheim, Max Weber, and Georg Simmel. In particular we will examine how their work overlapped with anthropology and psychology, and will explore their works’ relationship to the humanities. Our texts will be Great Minds: Encounters with Social Theory and Max Weber: On Charisma and Institution Building. This seminar will be of interest to those without a social science background, and to those who have some background, but seek a larger understanding of the field.
Jerome Braun is an independent scholar who has written and edited a number of books in interdisciplinary social science, with some emphasis on culture and personality and on democracy from a cross-cultural perspective.
Seven sessions, $180.
