In this seminar, participants will explore the ways the geographic discipline studies the organizational components of cities (i.e. neighborhoods, business districts, and public spaces), the spatial structure of cities in a comparative sense, and systems of cities in a global context (i.e. so-called World or Global Cities, offshore banking enters, and Export-Oriented Zones). The seminar will illustrate how urban phenomena are expressions of multi-scalar political and economic processes, linking ‘the local’ to ‘the global.
Seminar led by Alex Papadopoulos, DePaul University
