Whether you’re a beginner or simply looking for formal fundamentals training, try these seminars, tailored to meet your research needs. Take all six or just those that interest you most.

Research Methodology
Saturday, 10 am – 1 pm, March 10
We will tackle the fundamentals of accredited genealogical research and process methodology including research basics, strategies for beginners, precepts, and establishing standards of proof. We will also review relevant genealogical software programs and online resources. One session, $45. Register Online

Records Group I
Saturday, 2 – 4 pm, March 10
We will focus on finding and using United States Federal Census records, wills and probate, and religious records, as well as Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org. One session, $35. Register Online

Records Group II
Saturday, 10 am – Noon, March 17
We will focus on using reference tools, including catalog searching, inter-library loan, local histories and directories, genealogical publications, Chicago materials, and maps. We will also tour the Newberry’s genealogy collections. One session, $35. Register Online

Records Group III
Saturday, 1 – 3 pm, March 17
We will discuss genealogists’ use of land records, newspapers, military records, immigration and naturalization, and tax and ethnic records. One session, $35. Register Online

Information Analysis, Recording, and Organizing
Saturday, 10 am – Noon, March 24
We will review methods for beginners to analyze and organize information, including software available to genealogists like ancestral database software, the proper way to cite sources, and how to create a style sheet. One session, $35. Register Online

Networking
Saturday, 1 – 3 pm, March 24
We will cover the important sources for making connections with other genealogists to share information and assistance, including online social networking, societies, e-mailing lists and e-bulletin boards, and more. One session, $35. Register Online
