Session 2: Women as the Root of All Evil
Center for Renaissance Studies Programs
NEH Programs - Renaissance
Friday, March 19, 1993
Led by David Underdown, Yale University
This workshop centered on the political conflicts of early seventeenth-century England. In this second session, Professor Underdown explored the politics of the people, those below the elite. He argued that the work of both advocates and critics of the consensus model contain a missing dimension: all have ignored the ways in which assumptions about gender relations shaped early Stuart politics.
