10 am – Noon
Conceived in 1908 by Prairie School landscape architect Jens Jensen, the Garfield Park Conservatory was considered revolutionary when it opened for the way it presented its plant collection and specifically themed rooms. We will focus on the history as well as the current and future uses of the conservatory and Garfield Park. The class will meet at the park for the second session, which will include a behind-the-scenes tour of the conservatory, surrounding gardens, and production greenhouses.
John Raffetto holds an M.A. in geography and environmental studies from Northeastern Illinois University and works as a horticulturalist for the Chicago Park District.
