“Rethinking the Popular Front”
James Barrett, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
The Popular Front appeared more than seventy years ago, heralding a new era in radical politics. How do we understand the roots and historical significance of the Popular Front? How does it relate to our understanding of Stalinism and to the recent debates over the history of American communism? How did it relate to later social movements and what meaning does it have for us today?

Commentators: Peter Cole, Western Illinois University and Colleen Doody, DePaul University
