Introduction to Old Occitan

The course introduced the student to reading Old Occitan (also called Old Provençal), with emphasis on the poetry of the troubadours. Each session involved study of an aspect of morphology and translation of a text. Collateral readings and reports concerned versification, the place of the troubadours in society, and the nature of courtly love.
