“Waiting is the Hardest Part: Adult Film at the Point of Production”
Heather Berg, University of California Santa Barbara

“Waiting is the Hardest Part: Adult Film at the Point of Production” draws from set visits and over 75 interviews with current and retired porn industry performers, management, and crew to investigate the porn set as a site of labor, exploring how the work of porn performance is structured, remunerated, and managed. I begin with a discussion of the job tasks porn work entails, attending to the ways in which increasingly blurry boundaries between workers and management push the contours of class analysis. Next, I address workers’ experiences of job strain and the resistive tactics they take up in order to manage it.
