1940 U.S. Federal Census Update

How far things have come since April 2nd when the digital images of the 1940 U.S Federal Census population schedule were released!

Here’s an update from FamilySearch:

• 119,230,695 names have been indexed and arbitrated.
• 31 states are searchable. These states are: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming.
• 3 additional states are 100% indexed and will be posted shortly.

Ancestry.com has also been hard at work. Their 1940 update status shows that they have completed indexing the following states: Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia.
