Seminar Description

This seminar will serve as an introduction to the basics of the Cherokee language. First, we will learn about the history of the Cherokee language, including Sequoyah and the creation of the Cherokee syllabary, then we will turn our focus to learning conversational phrases and vocabulary in the Cherokee language. All skill levels welcome.

Patrick Del Percio serves as the Program Coordinator for the D’Arcy McNickle Center for American Indian and Indigenous Studies at the Newberry Library. He also serves as a contract translator for the Cherokee Nation Language Program as well as a Cherokee language instructor at Northwestern University.
