This summer, a group of 22 NEH summer scholars and ten guest speakers has convened at the Newberry for a four-week institute on music and travel in the early modern period. The overall project of the institute has been to “listen to travel” – both literally and metaphorically.
William Hauslein will present an eclectic array of the Newberry’s theatrical playbills and programs, including Chicago items dating to before the 1871 fire. The selection also includes elaborate examples of 19th and 20th century color printing, materials from England and France, and baseball ephemera from the 1906 World Series and the 1907 Chicago White Sox.
