The Challenge: 50,000 Indexers and Arbitrators. 24 hours.

While this challenge may not have the cachet of the Guinness World Records for the fastest time to type a text message while performing head spins or the fastest time to jump over 10 objects on a unicycle, it’s a challenge you can easily participate in from home.

On July 2, 2012, a total of 49,025 FamilySearch indexers and arbitrators set the all-time record for the most indexing participants in a single day. In an attempt to beat this record, volunteers from around the world will get online on July 20th and 21st. They are asked to submit at least one batch of documents in a 24-hour period.

Volunteers can work on any project, but FamilySearch is recommending the following:

US, Obituaries, 1980–2014
US, Passport Applications, 1795-1925
US, New Orleans—Passenger Lists, 1820-1902
UK, Manchester—Parish Registers, 1787-1999
