This project aims to provide a more complete understanding of the complex nexus of issues, events, and people that contributed to the causes and effects of the Civil War. Through artistic representations of this era,  teachers and students can gain perspective on the variety of phenomena that surrounded it. The Newberry has partnered with the Terra Foundation, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago History Museum, the Chicago Park District, the Chicago Public Library, and the DuSable Museum of African American History to make this unique resource available to the public.
