Collection includes six letters from Ninian Edwards, governor of Illinois territory, to Kentucky governor Isaac Shelby, regarding War of 1812-related Indian attacks in the Illinois Territory and the state of defenses there. Edwards was appointed governor of the new Illinois territory in 1809 and held office until 1818, when the territory became a state. He served as governor of the state of Illinois from 1826-1831, and died in 1833.

Seven letters, in French, June 10-July 14, 1763, written by Capt. George Etherington during the period of his captivity to Charles Langlade. Etherington was the British captain commanding Fort Michilimackinac when it was attacked and taken by the Ojibwa Indians, June 2, 1763. Most of the captured, including Etherington, were given up to the northern Ottawa and taken by them to L'Arbe Croche (now Cross Village, Mich.). Charles Langlade, the nephew of the Ottawa chief, La Fourche, remained at the fort and assumed command.

The majority of this collection is family correspondence dated between 1850 and 1890. The collection covers several important movements in nineteenth century America, including the revivals of the second Great Awakening, abolition, temperance, women's rights, rights of African-Americans, and moral reform. Printing, education, immigration, and religion are all discussed within the papers. Papers include materials of Robert Everett, the pastor of a Utica, N.Y., Welch Congregationalist church and publisher of a Welsh religious reform magazine that was pro-abolition. Also included are letters and materials of Mary Howell, a graduate of New York Medical College and Hospital for Women, who was involved in the suffrage movement, and Cynthia Everett, a member of the American Missionary Association who taught freedmen in Norfolk, Virginia and Charleston, South Carolina following the Civil War. Includes a letter describing the Chicago Fire of 1871.

A collection of photographs acquired by Faulk, mostly consisting of large-format albumen prints, but also a few stereographs and carte de visites. Dakota Territory scenes include views of Yankton, its buildings, and its citizens; photographs of Fort Dakota and Fort Randall by B. H. Gurnsey; the Congregational Church and parsonage at Faulkton; the Big Sioux River and Sioux Falls; and Indian camps. The collection also includes 32 oval portraits of Yankton, Brule, Two Kettle, and Santee Sioux chiefs, interpreters, and others, taken during treaty negotiations at the Addis Gallery in Washington, D.C. These photographs are part of the Edward E. Ayer Photograph Collection.

At least the first two images were marketed by Fay as part of a stereograph set showing the devastation in Chicago.

Fuller, Henry Blake, 1857-1929. Papers, 1868-2000, bulk 1874-1929.

Chicago novelist, essayist, critic, and satirist, whose writing encompassed realistic depictions of the Midwest, such as the The Cliff-Dwellers, and fanciful travel romances. Fuller was active in Chicago's Little Room and aided Harriet Monroe with Poetry: A Magazine of Verse. His papers include some outgoing correspondence, but consist primarily of incoming correspondence, and manuscript and published copies of his works, 1874-1929. Also diaries and travel journals, mementos, sketches and photographs, musical scores, theater programs, clippings, and articles about Fuller.

Chicago journalist and novelist, who won a Pulitzer Prize in 1986 and was the President of the Tribune Publishing Company from 1997 to 2004. Papers include literary and journalistic works, correspondence, and personal documents. Fuller wrote mainly for the Chicago Tribune, but also wrote for the Washington Post, and for the Pacific Stars and Stripes while serving in Vietnam. Also included are newspaper articles written by Fuller's father, Ernest Fuller, former financial reporter for the Chicago Tribune.
