Malkind, Sheila. Photographs, 1982-2001.

Malkind, a Chicago photojournalist, was the director of the Ruth Page Foundation from 1981 to 1992. In this capacity, she came to know many members of the Chicago dance community, including individuals such as Ann Barzel, Katherine Dunham, Larry Long, and Maria Tallchief. Her photographs are primarily candid shots of dancers and dance companies in Chicago: notable subjects include the individuals mentioned above, as well as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Dame Margot Fonteyn, and Rudolph Nureyev. Additional photographs document Ruth Page Foundation activities and a variety of formal, informal, and street gatherings, as well as photographs of Lincoln Park in every season. The collection also includes published feature articles that Malkind wrote for the Lerner newspapers, the Chicago Reader, the Chicago Sun-Times, and the Chicago Tribune.

MoMing, a neighborhood center for dance training and avant-garde performance, was formed in 1974 by Jackie Radis, Jim Self, Susan Kimmelman, Eric Trules, Kasia Mintch, Tem Horowitz, and Sally Banes. It officially dissolved in 1991, and all of the company's records were donated to the Newberry Library at that time.

Journal written during July and August of 1789 by George Cadogan Morgan while traveling in France during the French Revolution; a manuscript autobiography by Richard P. Morgan describing his childhood in England, 1808 voyage to America and travel there from 1812-1815, and settlement in Massachusetts where he was involved in railroading; a typescript memoir of George C. Morgan who was born in 1833 in New York, came to Illinois with his railroad engineer father in 1843, and became a civil engineer in Chicago; a manuscript memoir of Henry A. Gardner whose father worked on the Illinois and Michigan canal; and typescripts of the journal and autobiography.

Papers centering around Charles Ansel Morse (1835-1894) who settled in Chicago in the early 1860's, establishing a wholesale clothing firm. In 1864 Morse married the sister of Chicago alderman Morgan L. Keith. The bulk of the collection consists of letters home to family in New Bedford, Mass. There are also calling cards of many early Chicago residents, genealogical documents, and a few photographs.

Mowrer, Paul Scott, 1887-. Papers, 1894-1988, bulk 1912-1971.

Journalist with the Chicago Daily News, 1910-1944, and first poet laureate of New Hampshire. During his long career at the Daily News, he held the positions of Paris correspondent, head of European service, associate editor, and editor-in-chief. Also the author of numerous books on international political issues and ten volumes of poetry and several plays, some of them produced in New York. Papers are mainly comprised of Mowrer's works, together with letters (some with poets and literary editors), six diaries, scrapbooks, notes, souvenirs, and clippings. Some of the material deals with Mowrer's work as a journalist during the two World Wars.

Clippings, writings in typescript, field notebooks, and scrapbooks of Richard Mowrer, Chicago Daily News, New York Post, and freelance foreign correspondent. The papers mainly document his freelance career and represent nearly a quarter of a century of reporting from Franco's Spain, with some stories filed from Portugal, Gibraltar, Morocco, and Israel (1967 war). Mowrer also covered the Spanish Civil War, Mussolini's Italy, World War II Poland, the Middle East and the formation of the state of Israel.
