Classes with a specific project that would benefit from the use of the Newberry may schedule a class visit that includes orientations and research time. Applicants for library cards must be 16 years old or juniors in high school. The Newberry does not offer group visits to students who are too young to receive library cards.

The maximum size for group visits is 25 students.

Teachers of high school age students are encouraged to participate in the Newberry's Teacher Programs. Groups are also encouraged to visit the Newberry for Exhibits. Institutions that belong to the Center for Renaissance Studies Consortium should see the Renaissance Center's web page regarding class visits (www.newberry.org/renaissance/general/classvisits.html).

Preparing for Your Visit

We encourage all teachers to explore the Library's web site before visiting. Please pay special attention to the following sections:

For classes working on specific projects, a Reference Librarian may be able to provide additional guidance for preparation before the visit.

Scheduling Your Visit

To best prepare for and serve your group and to avoid multiple bookings of groups, we ask that you contact the Library as soon as you begin to plan your visit. A minimum of a two-week notice is required. To schedule a visit, contact Jill Gage at (312) 255-3635 or gagej@newberry.org.
