Digital Collections
Images of selected items from the Newberry's collections may be found at collections.carli.illinois.edu/index.php. Three collections of Newberry images are currently available:
Some Newberry books related to Chicago ethnic groups, clubs, professional groups, and religious congregations have been digitized and are available through the Open Content Alliance (www.archive.org) . Selected images from the Everett D. Graff Collection are also available through the subcription database The American West. This database may be used within the Newberry Library.

- OCLC FirstSearch/WorldCat: Links to OCLC databases such as WorldCat, ArticleFirst, ECO, Wilson Select Plus, and MLA. Some full-text.
- OCLC FirstSearch Plus: Links to 11 OCLC databases such as Arts and Humanities Citation Index, Books In Print, and Dissertations. Some full-text.
- Academic Search Premier: Provides full text for nearly 4,700 publications, including more than 3,600 peer-reviewed journals. Offered by EBSCO.
- America: History & Life: Indexing and abstracting tool for American and Canadian history. Abstracts and indexes articles and reviews from 2,000 journals, as well as books and dissertations, published worldwide from 1954.
- AHSearch: Arts and Humanities Citation Index. Some full-text. Offered by First Search Plus.
- AltPressIndex: Indexes journals covering cultural, economic, political & social change. Offered by First Search Plus.
- AltPressIndex Archive: Index of journals (1969-1990) covering cultural, economic, political & social change. Offered by First Search Plus.
- Ancestry.com: The largest collection of family history records on the web.
- Archive Grid: Selected Newberry Library archival finding aids; bibliographic records and digital finding aids for archival and manuscript collections at RLG libraries and other research libraries worldwide.
- ARTFL: Research on the French Language: Nearly 2000 texts, from classic works of literature to various kinds of non-fiction prose and technical writing. Genres include novels, verse, theater, journalism, essays, correspondence, and treatises.
- ArticleFirst: OCLC index of articles from contents pages of journals. Some full-text. Offered through First Search.
- BooksInPrint: In-print, out-of-print, and forthcoming books, audios and videos. Offered by First Search Plus.
- Business Source Elite: Provides full text for more than 1,120 business publications, including nearly 500 peer-reviewed business publications. Offered by EBSCO.
- ClasePeriodica: Offered through First Search. Index of Latin American journals in the sciences and humanities. Some full-text.
- CWI: Contemporary Women's Issues. Some full-text. Offered by First Search Plus.
- Disclosure: Directory information on companies publicly traded on U.S. exchanges. Offered by First Search Plus.
- Dissertations: Dissertations and theses from institutions in North America and Europe. Offered by First Search Plus.
- EBSCOhost: Links to EBSCO databases such as Academic Search Premier and America: History and Life. Some full-text.
- ECO: An OCLC collection of scholarly journals. Offered through First Search.
- EconLit: Journals, books, and working papers on economics. Some full-text. Offered by First Search Plus.
- ERIC: ERIC, the Educational Resource Information Center, contains more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts for over 1,000 educational and education-related journals. Also available through First Search service.
- Footnote: Primary source database that includes images of original American documents, such as court records, city directories, letters, and a variety of other items. Useful for family history research.
- GEOBASE: Worldwide literature on geography, geology, and ecology. Some full-text. Offered by First Search Plus.
- GPO: Index of some U.S. government publications, 1976-present. Offered through First Search.
- HarpWeek: Search Harper's Weekly from 1857-1912.
- HeritageQuestOnline.com: With over 25,000 books, the entire U.S. Federal Census, PERSI, selected Revolutionary War records, and Freedman's Bank records, HeritageQuestOnline.com is one of the largest collections of online genealogy materials.
- Iter: Middle Ages and Renaissance: Provides access to a bibliography covering literature pertaining to the Middle Ages and Renaissance (400-1700) plus 7 or 8 additional dabatases.
- JSTOR: Provides full-text access to an archive of major scholarly journals. Contains complete runs from their first volumes up through approximately five years ago.
- MLA International Bibliography: Indexes materials on literature, languages, linguistics, and folklore, excluding book reviews. Citations from over 4,000 journals and series published worldwide, as well as books, essays, working papers, proceedings, dissertations, & bibliographies. Also includes citations to books and journal articles having to do with linguistics and language topics.
- NewsAbs: Significant items from over 50 U.S. national and regional newspapers. Offered by First Search Plus.
- Newspaper Source: Provides selected full text for nearly 30 national (U.S.) and international newspapers. Also contain full text television and radio news transcripts, and selected full text for more than 200 regional (U.S.) newspapers. Offered by EBSCO.
- OAISTER: Union catalog of digital resources. Offered by First Search.
- PapersFirst: OCLC index of papers presented at conferences worldwide. Offered through First Search.
- Proceedings: An OCLC index of worldwide conference proceedings. Offered through First Search.
- Professional Development Collection: Designed for professional educators, this database provides a specialized collection of more than 550 education journals, including more than 350 peer-reviewed titles. Also contains more than 200 educational journals. Offered by EBSCO.
- ProjectMuse: Provides full-text access to recent volumes of scholarly journals in the arts and humanities published by Johns Hopkins University Press and journals of other university presses.
- Rarebooks: Largest bibliography on rare books in the world.
- Regional Business News: This database provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States. This database is updated on a daily basis. Offered by EBSCO.
- Sanborn Maps for Illinois: Historic maps of Illinois towns and cities, from the collection of Sanborn maps at the Library of Congress.
- Saskia Digital Image Archive: This collection contains 30,000 digital images of paintings, scuplture and architecture, including images from many important collections: the Prado, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Uffizi, and the Louvre, as well as archaeological sites in Greece, Italy, Turkey, and Egypt.
- Wilson Select Plus: Full-text articles in science, education, humanities, and business. Offered through First Search.
- World Almanac: Funk and Wagnalls New Encyclopedia and 4 almanacs. Offered through First Search.
- WorldCat: OCLC catalog of books and other materials in libraries worldwide. Offered through First Search.
- Worldscope: Basic financial information on public companies worldwide. Offered by First Search Plus.
