FamilySearch has announced that effective August 31, 2017, it will discontinue lending its microfilms. While much of the films’ content is available on FamilySearch.com, some of it is not. The Newberry will keep the film it currently has on permanent loan after August 31st. All short-term loans currently at the Newberry will also be retained.
New orders for films can be placed through August 31st, and those films will also stay at the Newberry on permanent loan. Films held by the Newberry do not need to be returned unless FamilySearch asks for them.
If you wish to secure new films for future research, the time to order is now. Place your orders at familysearch.org/films.
If you need assistance in finding films, determining which films are not available online, and/or in placing orders, please visit the 2nd floor Genealogy Reference Desk, call us at (312) 255-3512, or contact us online at www.newberry.org/contact-librarian
