Due to the Labor Day holiday, the monthly Genealogy and Local History Orientation will be held on Saturday, September 12 at 9:30 am. This event is especially helpful for those new to genealogical research or new to research at the Newberry. After the orientation, stay and start your research in the General Reading Room where the reference staff will be available to assist you.
At 1:30 pm, join the Chicago Genealogical Society for “DNA Test Results: A Power Tool in the Genealogical Research Toolbox.“Learn the many different ways DNA test results can confirm and advance your traditional paper trail research through case examples. Additionally, explore the four different types of DNA tests, strengths and weaknesses of the three major testing companies and choose the right test for your research question. Karen Stanbary is a professional genealogist, trained in the use of DNA testing for genealogical purposes.
