Join us this Saturday at 9:30 for the monthly Genealogy and Local History Orientation. This event is especially helpful for those new to genealogical research or new to research at the Newberry. After the orientation, stay and start your research in the General Reading Room where the reference staff will be available to assist you.
After the reading rooms close, join the Chicago Genealogical Society for their monthly meeting at 1:30 pm. This month’s event is Preserving Your Family’s Treasures. The speaker will be Rena Schergen, MLIS.
Ever wonder how to protect those family documents, photographs, news clippings, scrapbooks and heirlooms? Don’t let them fall to pieces! Learn about archival best practices that you can implement at home, including how to preserve and store your family’s physical history. Rena will also give pointers for choosing and buying materials for your personal archives. Bring your questions and pick her brain! Rena Schergen is an Archivist at the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Hailing from the Southwest Side of Chicago, she has been a member of CGS for 4 years.
