Evangelical United Brethren

The Evangelical United Brethren Church (EUB) has its roots in early 19th century Methodist-style revivals among German immigrants in Pennsylvania. The revivals spurred the formation of two denominations: the United Brethren in Christ (1800) and the Evangelical Association (1816). A splinter group, called the United Brethren in Christ (Old Constitution) left the United Brethren in 1889 and remained separate. A group succeeded from the Evangelical Association in 1891 to form the United Evangelical Association, however these two groups merged again in 1922 to form the Evangelical Church. In 1946, the United Brethren in Christ and the Evangelical Church merged to form the Evangelical United Brethren. The denomination's theological and structural similarity to the Methodist Church led the two to merge into the United Methodist Church in 1968.
