Germanic Genealogy

Sources listed in this pathfinder are strongest for the 19th and 20th century. To research Germans in this country, use the subject heading of "Germans - [location]" in the computer catalog. When researching Pennsylvania Germans, use "Germans–Pennsylvania" and "Pennsylvania Dutch". Also, remember to search by the county as a subject heading and be sure to consult  the computer catalog by family name. Some other helpful subject headings include: "Germany–Genealogy" and "German Americans".

To discover records the Mormons have microfilmed, consult the Family History Library Catalog at www.familysearch.org. Through a loan program with that library, microfilm of German records can be ordered for use at the Newberry.
