Professional genealogist Tony Burroughs blogs today on CNN.com about the challenges and rewards of pursuing pre-Emancipation African-American genealogy.  He rightly points out that no one knows all the information that has survived from this period, and that African-American genealogical methods are still in their infancy.  He also describes the importance of learning and correctly applying the genealogy research process, which involves a lot more than simply Googling your family name.
