Not really a magazine and not really a gazetteer. Hanson refers to this as "the foremost source" for local history in the state. Hemenway at first planned to cover the entire state in a series of sketches on local history; however, her death prevented her from completing this plan. She solicited original papers from local historians and reprinted several other histories. Much of the material was obtained from interviewing early settlers. An index was published in 1923 and comprises the last volume in the series.
