Blatchford Society

The Blatchford Society was established to recognize those individuals who have included the Newberry Library in their estate plans by naming the Newberry in their will or by creating a charitable gift annuity or trust that provides them with income for life.

The Society bears the name of Chicago civic leader Eliphalet W. Blatchford (1826-1914), friend of Walter L. Newberry and the first president of the Newberry Library Board of Trustees. As co-executor of Mr. Newberry's estate, Mr. Blatchford was steadfast in fulfilling the wishes of his friend as expressed in his will, and in turn provided for the Library in his own estate.

The Library is pleased to honor the members of the Blatchford Society, whose dedication and commitment help sustain the Newberry Library for generations to come. For more information on the Blatchford Society, contact Frances Lai, Director of Gift Planning, at (312) 255-3545.
