Heritage and Genealogical Society

Certification of the arms of Juan Ramón de Torres Bermúdez of Cádiz by official chronicler Juan Félix de Rújula, dated Sept. 25, 1788 in Madrid. Torres Bermúdez, whose confirmation of nobility status or "hidalguía" was recently issued by the Alcaldes de la Sala de Hijos-Dalgo in Granada on June 18, 1788, has requested an examination, description, and certification of his family arms, all of which are contained in the ms. prepared by Rújula.

Official chronicler Juan Félix de Rújula prepared this certification of the arms of Spanish nobleman Juan Ramón de Torres Bermúdez in 1788.

The Heritage and Genealogical Society is a new membership group for lineage and genealogical organizations with an interest in the Newberry’s commitment to supporting genealogy and local history. Gifts from these organizations to the library support the preservation of our cultural heritage, the availability of free resources and award-winning reference services for individuals tracing their ancestry, diverse offerings in genealogical and historical programming, and a greater understanding and appreciation of our nation’s history.

Membership in the Heritage and Genealogical Society is open to lineage and genealogical organizations and requires a minimum annual contribution of $2,500, which may support a wide variety of Newberry projects and activities. Benefits vary by level, and may include:

  • Recognition in a special Heritage and Genealogical Society category in the Newberry’s Annual Report and on a plaque in the Newberry’s lobby
  • An annual orientation to the Newberry’s genealogy collection for your members
  • Tickets to special Newberry receptions and programs
