The 25th Annual Newberry Library Book Fair

Thursday, July 23 through Sunday, July 26

Chicago, April 20, 2009 - This July 23 - 26 marks the 25th anniversary of the celebrated Newberry Library Book Fair. An extraordinary collection of more than 110,000 donated used books awaits book lovers this year. Readers are invited to indulge their inner bibliophile and scour this tremendous sale for deals on cookbooks, music, novels, movies, art books, children's literature and much, much more. Find treasures like a signed copy of Charles Schulz's You're On the Wrong Foot Again, Charlie Brown, an extensive Civil War collection, and a book including letters from former Illinois governor, Henry Horner.

"The Book Fair is a Chicago and Newberry tradition that celebrates the joys of reading - and bargain shopping," said Dan Crawford, book fair manager. "The response to our Book Fair over the years is heart warming and donations have increased by six percent in 2009. In fact, this year we have at least 10,000 more than last year to sell"

Join us in celebrating the vibrant 25-year history of the Book Fair with special festivities throughout the weekend. Profits generated by the Book Fair go towards the sustenance of the Newberry Library's mission and allow for continued public access to one of the world's greatest research and rare books libraries.

On Saturday, July 25, from noon until 4 pm, visitors are invited to partake in the legendary Bughouse Square Debates. Held directly south of the Newberry Library in Washington Square Park, a bastion of free speech, the debates pay tribute to the history of oratory magnificence and engage important social and political issues.
