Newberry Library Announces New Reading Room Hours
Effective October 3, 2009

August 10, 2009 - The Newberry Library has changed its reading room hours, effective Saturday, October 3, 2009. The reading rooms will be open Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 am to 5 pm, and on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm.

In recent years we have observed fewer readers using the reading rooms on Saturday afternoons. This change in hours permits us to deploy the Library Services staff as effectively as possible on behalf of excellent service to all users, while continuing to provide Saturday reading time here at the Newberry. We are pleased to be able to offer 36 hours of reading room access each week.

The first floor exhibition galleries will continue to be open to the public Monday, Friday, and Saturday 8:15 am to 5:00 pm and Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:15 am to 7:30 pm.

The Newberry Library’s reading rooms are open to researchers who are at least 16 years old or juniors in high school. Before using the collections, all researchers must apply for and receive a Newberry Library Reader’s card on the third floor of the Library. Valid photo ID, proof of current home address, and a research interest that is supported by the Newberry’s collections are required.
