In addition to the programs organized through the Newberry’s four research centers—the Dr. William Scholl Center for American History and Culture, the Center for Renaissance Studies, the D’Arcy McNickle Center for American Indian and Indigenous Studies, and the Hermon Dunlap Smith Center for the History of Cartography—the Division of Research and Academic Programs offers programs in the humanities that fall outside the scope of the research centers. These programs are open to faculty members, graduate students, and independent scholars interested in the Newberry’s collections and its thriving intellectual community.

These programs include seminars and research programs for Undergraduates, the Scholar-in-Residence Program, and the Graduate Scholar-in-Residence Program. Interested scholars may wish to find more about the Newberry’s Fellowships and Teaching Opportunities. Finally, the Newberry’s Division of Research and Academic Programs runs two seminars of its own: the Newberry Seminar in British History and the Center for Research in Festive Culture Seminar.
