The Newberry’s collection of French pamphlets was recently cataloged through a generous grant from the Council on Library and Information Resources. This collection contains pamphlets published from about 1600 to the French Revolution, covering over two hundred years of French history. The pamphlets revolve around topics as varied as the Louis XVI trial and execution, funeral orations, commemorative poetry, as well as publishers’ prospectuses, catalogs, and other ephemeral documents which illuminate the history of the French book trade.
