David A. Boruchoff is Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies at McGill University. His research on the literature, historiography, and intellectual history of early modern Europe and America addresses a broad range of themes: from Inquisitorial culture, the invention of the novel, maritime history, and missionary culture, to the interrelationship of natural history and moral philosophy in colonial America. Recent publications include studies of Isabel I of Castile, Miguel de Cervantes, picaresque and pastoral fiction. He is completing a critical edition, translation, and study of the newfound manuscript of the Vida y sucesos de la Monja Alférez, and a book entitled Renaissance Exploration and the Invention of a New World.
