Daviken Studnicki-Gizbert teaches early modern Iberian and World history at McGill University and recently published A Nation Upon the Ocean Sea: Portugal’s Atlantic Diaspora and the Crisis of the Spanish Empire, 1491-1640 (Oxford). His current research focuses on the environmental history of colonial mining as well as the theory and practice of the early modern Iberian arts of transformation.
