Donors may make a restricted gift for a particular program or purpose at the Newberry that they specifically wish to support. Restricted gifts may take the form of outright gifts or endowment support. Some of the critical needs that have been funded by restricted gifts include:
- Acquisition, conservation, and cataloging of books, maps, and other materials
- Fellowships and research centers
- Educational and public programs
