Program InformationNTC Overview The Newberry Teachers' Consortium began at Northwestern University in 1983 as a professional development program for Advanced Placement teachers. After moving to the Newberry Library in 1998, NTC expanded its seminar offerings and broadened its audience to include all secondary teachers. In the 2008-09 program year, over 700 teachers attended 45 seminars on diverse topics like the Federal Reserve system, moral reform movements in Progressive-era Chicago, and Soviet-era anti-Utopian novels. These teachers came from 58 schools representing over 30 school districts in the Chicago area. NTC offers seminars in nine subject areas:
Seminar Format Seminars are three-hours long and take place on weekdays here at the Newberry Library. Seminars are always scheduled from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Participants earn 3 CPDU credits for attending a NTC seminar. Participating in NTC NTC is a membership-based program that requires the purchase of an annual membership. School districts, schools, departments, or individuals are welcome to purchase any level of membership to fit their professional development needs. District, school, and departments that are NTC members use a central contact person to coordinate seminar requests, track seminar participation, and monitor membership status. Seminar registration is limited to 20 participants per semianr. Registrations are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Each member may only send two teachers to any given seminar. Memberships
