4 - 7 pm
This Valentine-making workshop will provide you with the tools and the inspiration to craft an original card for your beloved. The Newberry’s free exhibition on display, Love on Paper, offers guidance in the form of historical Valentines, cordiform (heart-shaped) maps, and bawdy treatises on love from the Renaissance. Let the exhibition instruct you in what to do (and not to do) with your Valentine card, or use the paper and envelopes that will be available to make a new variation on the age-old theme of love on paper. Paper artist Becky Saiki will demonstrate how to make pop-up folded hearts. Light holiday snacks will be served. Don’t miss it!
Becky Saiki is a paper artist. She holds an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in fiber, and in textile and weaving arts. She also taught art at California State University, Fresno, and was a manager at Aiko’s Art Materials, and a conservation technician at the Newberry Library.
This program is free and no reservations are required.
