For representative council members who arrive early, we have arranged a special hands-on session led by James Akerman, Newberry Curator of Maps and director of the Smith Center for the History of Cartography. Jim will bring out and discuss some of the most intriguing of the more than half a million historic maps in the Newberry collection (learn more about the Newberry’s Maps, Travel, and Exploration collection).
