The Ethical-political role of Irish Young Adult Authors in Interpreting Ireland’s Legacy of Shame through a Feminist Lens, Jennifer Mooney, Dublin City University and Marino College

Irish authors Deirdre Sullivan, Sarah Maria Griffin and Moïra Fowley-Doyle, confront the ongoing legacy of repressive moralising and shame around women’s bodies in Irish society in their contemporary works of young adult fiction. This paper examines these authors’ ethical-political role in confronting these issues and their increasingly significant contribution to the new critical dynamics of Irish studies – particularly regarding how Ireland’s national literature represents women’s voices and experiences.
