Seminar Description

Contemporary Irish poetry is among the richest and most diverse in the world. Irish poets write from the perspectives of rural, suburban, and urban lives, portraying familial ties, intimacies, and disturbances, and addressing the influx of new people and ideas to Ireland. Among other themes, we will examine how contemporary Irish poets respond to the challenges of living in an era and a world increasingly disconnected from the traditions and perspectives that shaped life and thought in former times.

Six sessions. Registration – $210

Joseph Heininger is a professor of English at Dominican University. His interests include modern and contemporary Irish and English poetry, drama, and fiction, as well as philosophy and religious studies. He is currently working on a study of modern Irish elegies.
