Seminar Description

What is the difference between a novel and a poem? When we think of work by Dickinson or Dickens, we might answer that poems are shorter or that novels are written in prose. But many powerful poetic works complicate such distinctions, and we will read three such examples in this course. We will also write our own extended verse to play with new possibilities.

Everyone is welcome in this course--there are no prerequisites! That said, the workshop component builds on a basic background in poetry and is designed for writers interested in a challenge.

Four sessions. Registration – $120

C. Mitchell holds an MFA in poetry from Boston University and an MA in religion and literature from the University of Chicago, where she currently teaches writing.
