Starting January 2, 2019, the Newberry’s reading rooms will be open the following hours:
Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 5pm
Wednesday, 10am - 7pm
Based on data from the Newberry’s circulation system, the new schedule aligns the library’s reading room hours with the times that visitors tend to use the collection most.
“We’re always looking for ways to adapt to visitor patterns and preferences as we aim to make the Newberry’s collection as accessible as possible,” said Director of Reader Services Will Hansen. “This latest update to our hours provides users with larger windows of time, particularly on Saturdays, to request items and engage with them. In aligning the new hours with traffic patterns we’ve observed in the reading rooms, we’re hoping to better accommodate our visitors’ schedules in addition to making more efficient use of staff time.”
The procedure for becoming a Newberry reader remains the same: anyone who is at least 14 years old and has a research interest supported by the Newberry’s collection may sign up for a reader’s card and immediately begin requesting items from the library’s world-class holdings.
