Seminar Description

This seminar will explore the history and visual culture of the Century of Progress International Exposition, staged in Chicago in 1933-1934. We will study the fair’s architecture, landscape design, exhibits, special events, and amusements. Readings and visual examples will be drawn chiefly from primary sources in the Newberry's collection. Ten sessions.

Diane Dillon is Director of Exhibitions and Major Projects at the Newberry Library. She holds a PhD in the History of Art from Yale University.
