About the Fellowships Program
The Newberry library has provided support for scholars, writers, and artists since the 1940s. Today, the Newberry awards dozens of research fellowships every year.
Fellowship awards are open to scholars at all phases of their career, from PhD candidates to senior academics; artists and writers; representatives of Tribal Nations; and other researchers committed to humanistic inquiry. During their residencies at the library, fellows receive funding to support their work and join a devoted community of scholars and researchers.
Fellowship Opportunities
Indigenous and Tribal Research
The Newberry Library offers a variety of funding for research in Indigenous studies and by Indigenous individuals and groups. These opportunities include Tribal Research Fellowships, Short-Term Fellowships, and Newberry Consortium in American Indian and Indigenous Studies Fellowships.
