Volunteer Roles
Greet visitors to the Newberry and help them navigate the library’s many offerings. Serve as an ambassador, answer questions, and work alongside library staff to encourage use of the Newberry’s collection.
Lead tours of the Newberry building or an exhibition. Through engaging storytelling, you'll illuminate our collection and history for visitors.
Assist customers, conduct sales, and help with stocking and merchandising in the Newberry Bookshop.
Check in attendees for our free public programs. Help us engage the public through workshops, lectures, performances, and more.
Support Chicago’s favorite used book sale by serving as a cashier, stocking shelves, or answering shopper questions at the sale in July. Volunteers are also needed year-round to sort book donations.
