Beginning January 2018 the Newberry will be undertaking renovation of much of the first floor. The Adult Education Seminars Program will still have use of the basement classrooms, but please check this link frequently for the latest conditions - which exterior doors are open or closed, where to find an accessible entrance, which restrooms are available, etc.
Because of the renovation, the Newberry Bookstore will be closed during the Winter/Spring and Summer 2018 terms. Seminar Description
Agatha Christie is a global figure of crime literature. We will discuss representative works of the 1920s and ‘30s featuring her major sleuths, Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, (including the well-known and much-filmed novel, Murder on the Orient Express, a new version of which was released November 2017) in order to explore the conventions of mystery fiction and the ways that Christie both plays with and breaks the rules. One session.
Elzbieta Foeller-Pituch is the Assistant Director of the Chabraja Center for Historical Studies at Northwestern University, where she also teaches literature classes.
