Seminar Description

This course will introduce students to the rich world of the Arabic language. At the end of the course, each student will be able to read and write short paragraphs (5-6 sentences) in grammatically correct Modern Standard Arabic describing themselves, their family, the weather, food, places, and simple actions in the past, present, and future. Lessons will also include cultural information and units on music, art, and travel. This course is for beginners or heritage speakers who want to learn the basics of reading and writing in Arabic.

Laurel Harig teaches classes on the art, history, and culture of the Arab world at several Chicago-area institutions. She holds an MA from the Divinity School at the University of Chicago and a BA in cross-cultural communications from Bard College.
