Beginning January 2018 the Newberry will be undertaking renovation of much of the first floor. Seminar Description

In 1921, Ben Hecht began writing a daily column for the Chicago Daily News, called 1001 Afternoons in Chicago, which were fictive sketches of Chicago's bustling urban landscape of that time. A year later, 64 of these columns were compiled in a book with the same title. We will read and discuss these wonderful sketches in this book in this class. Five sessions.

Richard Reeder is the author of Chicago Sketches. He teaches literature courses in the Oakton Community College Emeritus Program and is the founder and the facilitator of the Chicago Jewish Authors Literary Series. He served as president of the Chicago Literary Hall of Fame for three years.
