Seminar Description

The idea of making up a story—writing fiction—can be intimidating for anyone, even an experienced journalist, essayist, or blogger. This workshop is for writers of all levels who want to start writing short fiction. We'll look at literary short stories to understand what makes them work. We'll discuss how real-life experiences can fuel fiction and how to let your imagination roam. Participants will develop ideas and share writing in class. Eight sessions.

Linda Downing Miller's short stories have recently appeared in Crab Orchard Review, Fiction International, and Fifth Wednesday Journal. She earned an MFA from Queens University of Charlotte in 2014 and has worked as a freelance writer and journalist.
