Seminar Description

Paste paper is an early form of decorative paper that has been used in bookbinding since the early 16th century. This course will explore historical designs and techniques while offering participants the opportunity to examine samples of bookbindings with paste paper features from the Newberry's collection. Participants will create their own patterned paste papers and use them in the construction of model bookbindings. **Please note: There will be an additional $25 fee for materials provided in class to be paid at the first session (cash or check accepted).**

Lesa Dowd is the Director of Conservation Services for the Newberry. Outside of her daily work in conservation, she enjoys practicing the art of fine bookbinding. She has studied French fine binding technique with Tini Miura and Monique Lallier.
